Organise, recharge, and succeed - Tips for thriving during exam season

With exam season just around the corner, many students are in study mode and perhaps feeling overwhelmed. Learning how to deal with this pressure isn’t easy, but there are small steps you can take to ease stress and help improve your revision.

With that in mind, we have put together some tips to help you thrive this exam season.

  1. Plan a study schedule

Don’t wait until the last moment to start studying. Create a study schedule well in advance of the exam period and break it down into manageable chunks to avoid getting overwhelmed at the last minute. This will allow you to schedule necessary breaks and to be more flexible if you find certain subject areas take longer to revise than others.

Planning ahead helps you to manage your time effectively and ensures that you have all the necessary study materials. So, grab a planner and start mapping out your study sessions. You’ve got this!

  1. Create a study group

Studying alone can be isolating and even boring at times, but, creating a study group is an excellent way to make studying more fun and engaging. You'll be able to share ideas, ask questions, and even quiz each other on the material. Plus, working with others can help you stay accountable and motivated.

  1. Take breaks

Now, while we all know that the studying aspect is essential, don't forget to take regular breaks. Taking a five to ten minutes break every hour will not only help you recharge but also improve your focus. Use that time to stretch, walk around or indulge in a healthy snack. Trust us, your mind and body will thank you for it.

  1. Gamify your study sessions

Turn your study sessions into a game by setting goals, tracking your progress, and rewarding yourself for reaching milestones. This can make studying more exciting. For example, you could give yourself a treat for every chapter you finish reading, or set goals with your study group and specific rewards for the first to reach them.

  1. Don't forget to catch some Z’s

Aim for at least seven to eight hours of sleep each night to feel refreshed and ready to take on the day ahead. It is widely accepted by sleep experts that a lack of sleep can be detrimental to academic performance. So, put away your phone, turn off your laptop and hit the hay!

  1. Seek support

Last but by no means least, don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Reach out to your peers, tutors, or academic advisors for guidance and advice. Your university will have support services available to enable you to reach your full potential.
