What’s on: Summer events and activities in Swansea

For those of you who are remaining in Swansea over the summer break, there are many things to do to keep you entertained. With stunning beaches, coastal walks and plenty of events in the area, there are lots of activities to choose from, so we’ve compiled a handy list of upcoming summer events and activities below.

Summer Events

During the month of August, there are many events taking place across Swansea that cater to a variety of interests.

Gower Climbing Festival

BMC Gower Climbing Festival features a long weekend of climbing-related fun that begins on Friday, 26 August and ends on Monday, 29 August. Basecamp is located at Moorlakes Wood campsite where you can set up your tent, campervan or hammock. Over the course of the three days, there are a variety of activities available, such as morning yoga and gear demos and at night, campfires, discos and more. The event is entirely non-profit and is supported by the British Mountaineering Council, with all proceeds going to charity.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Oystermouth Castle

Ideal for theatre fans, you can enjoy this Shakespearean classic in the idyllic setting of the grounds of Oystermouth Castle. The play will take place on Thursday, 25 August at 7.30pm. Experience theatre in a whole new environment, take a picnic, blanket and enjoy the show!

Swansea Jobs Fair

Taking place on Wednesday, 31 August at Swansea.com Stadium between 10am and 1pm, this is a great opportunity to find out more about potential employers from various industries all recruiting for local jobs

You just need to be prepared to chat to different employers wanting to recruit new staff and it is advisable to take copies of your CV.

Wednesday Night Beach Yoga Swansea Bay

For those interested in health and wellbeing, Womankind Yoga is running for its 8th consecutive year, the weekly beach class that takes place near the Observatory Tower on Swansea Beach. There are limited places available for each class so you do need to book your tickets in advance. The classes are donation only, and the team request that donations are made at the time of booking.

Coastal walks

If you enjoy breath-taking scenery, Swansea’s Instagrammable coastal walks provide a perfect setting for your next strole. Rhossili is a haven for those who enjoy walking, surfing, or relaxing on the sand.

For hardcore hikers, the Gower Super Challenge may be one for your checklist this summer. The challenge consists of a two-day walk that Mark Rowe, the travel journalist, has also taken part in. It totals 20 miles (32km) and typically lasts between six to eight hours depending on your speed.
